About The China Bond Shop
The China Bond Shop offers the largest collection of antique Chinese bond certificates in Hong Kong. Whilst the China Bond Shop specialises in Chinese government and railway bonds we also hold other bond and share certificates in stock. Bond certificates make excellent gifts and are popular as leaving presents for friends and colleagues, especially in the finance and legal professions. You can view our collection online and then contact us to discuss your requirements and arrange a viewing. If you are unable to find a particular issue you are looking for please contact us and we will try to source it for you.
The Bankers' and Lawyers' Eye
The bonds are particularly interesting to bankers and lawyers due to their financial history. Being bearer instruments, the terms and conditions of the bonds are endorsed on the certificates and are a good read for bankers and others familiar with the language of similar instruments issued today.
The China Bond Shop holds some of the most collectible bonds in the best condition available. We have acquired these from reputable sources and, as an online gallery, we are often able to offer the bonds at prices below those found in traditional commercial galleries and stores.

The History of Collecting Bonds (Scripophily)
Collecting Chinese and bond and share certificates began in earnest in the late 1970's and has become increasingly popular in recent years as collectors and investors alike have begun to appreciate their aesthetic as well as historical appeal. Being "bearer" instruments, almost all of the bonds are security printed to a high quality. Chinese bond certificates, in particular, are excellent examples of the security printers' craft, with many of them being finely engraved and containing detailed decorative scenes. We expect that demand for them will continue to grow.
Despite the secure printing methods adopted for the bonds, we have recently become aware of a growing number of fakes and counterfeit certificates in the market. It is therefore advisable to physically view and feel the certificates wherever possible. We are happy to arrange private visits to allow you to do this. In addition, many of the certificates contain watermarks that are visible when the certificates are held up to a strong light (for example the Chinese Imperial Government 4½% Gold Loan of 1898 and the 1905 Honan Railway Bond).
